  1. Unfortunately, the contents found on the N5300 are mostly copyrighted so theres no way to move it nor copy it.

You can get an activation key on your provider by simply asking them for the code.

  2. Hi Cris,

As far as i know, there’s no way to alter the screen brightness of the N5300 Xpressmusic handset. We’ve contacted the Nokia CS about it but then they still don’t add this setting on the latest firmware.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

  3. I have same promblem any ringtone I put upload onto my phone says its not allowed by activation key
    HELP!!

    thanks,
    lizz

  4. Liz,

Your Network operator may be restricting mobile contents(MP3,videos,ringtones).Like Rogers…
It is used to avoid distribution of copyrighted materials.

  5. I was able to copy the copyrighted music that was stored on the 1 GB card to a 2 GB card… have tried copying it from the 2 GB …

  6. the 3 free songs i uploaded are not playing on my phone! it saids activation key required and i dont know what that is

  7. Hi 🙂

I don`t know if you kave the same problem.
I have 5300. When I plug the earphones the sound (even on max) is very low. I don`t know if it`s only my nokia`s problem.
Do you have any idea how can I fix it ? 🙂

    10x 🙂

  8. Hi,

I have nokia 5200 and I have misplaced my cell security code.

I’m not able to make any changes in my cell.

can u please help by giving any secret code through which I can reset the security code.

    please help

  9. i like to know the best equalizer setting (manual) for nokia 5310xm, coz the standard equalizer setting (pop, rock, classical and jazz) are not good.
    thanks.

  10. Bhanu,

If your N5310 do hangs occassionally, the problem might be on the firmware. Better bring your handset to the Nokia Service Center. Regarding on your second question, sleep mode will make the screen inactive or the main display will turn off but the phone is still active. Turning this setting on is not advisable if you do receive calls frequently.

    😉

  11. Hi. I am using nokia 5300 XpressMusic. I want to change my equaliser manually. Can anybody help me with it? And does the firmware upgrade makes the sound quality good in loud speaker as in headphone its already great.

  12. Iam satisfied with first answer, but there is again doubt about second one!!!say per suppose if my cell is in sleep mode then do i have to switch it on again by taking out the battry and then putting it back again, cause thats wat iam doin when my cell hangs!!??

  13. Sudin,

Pop preset must be ok for equalizer. Updating your firmware to v5.51 is great. The music playback on both headphones and loudspeaker got even better. Plus the loudspeaker won’t likely break/blast if you set the volume to the max.

    Bhanu,

In sleep mode you don’t need to take the battery out, just press any button then it will return to standby mode.

If your phone do hangs/freeze when playing music, it’s a firmware or hardware related problem. Many have also experienced that type of problem same as yours. Better bring your phone to a Nokia Service Center.

    😉

  16. Hi all,

Has anyone realize that if you play music through 5310 earphone you will get crackling sound sometimes (several times per song), I’ve tried 2 different phones and they act the same, I love this phone but I just can’t tolerate this since it’s supposed to be a music phone. Anyone?

    thanx
    donna

  24. I have had the nokia 5310 xpress music for over a week now. I’m also experiencing cracking/buzzing sounds while I’m listening to music. It’s not a codec problem or bitrate problem. I converted some tracks to m4a/aac 256kbps and m4a/aac 128kbps and the cracking was still there. (I listened the same tracks with psp and no problems). That’s better be a firmware/software problem, not hardware problem. Now we have to wait a firmware update………………..if it ever appears.

  25. have a 5610 and i have problems with my profiles.. i try changing my tones to “personalize” it but after awhile it keeps on going back to its original tones… what seems to be the problem? thanks!!

  26. Make sure that the tone you’re using is on the phone’s internal memory. If It’s on the memorycard and you remove the memory card and then insert the memorycard, you will hear the original tunes.

  27. Dana,

When updating the music library, my phone only scans the memory card and add supported audio file formats found from there. It will not scan and add any audio file you have on your phone memory. If you want to get rid of some music files from your music player, try removing it from your memory card, or transfer them to your phone memory. Then update your music library.

If in case, you dont want to remove these files from your memory card, you still have another option: creating playlists, so you can select only those files you want to be played by the music player. How to create playlists on nokia 5200, 5300, 5310, 5610 here: https://xpressmusic.wordpress.com/2007/11/30/how-to-create-playlist-on-nokia-5300-5310-and-5610/

  28. Joku,

Make sure the right profile is Activated, or that you are modifying the currently activated profile.

Sometimes, if you apply mobile themes, it also changes your ringing tone, message alert tone, etc without you knowing it.

  29. Bosanac,

Before anything else, make sure that your KD Player is allowed to access and read data from your phone. To do this, select the KD Player (do not open it yet), then press Options > Application Access > Data Access > Read User Data > Always Allowed. If the Always Allowed option is disabled, select Ask Every time instead.

Then, open the KD Player. Press Go to Menu > Music Library > Menu > Settings > General Settings then mark Search in subfolders. Press Options > Save. Then go to Menu > Music Library > Menu > Settings > Folders for scanning > Menu > Add Folder. Browse the folder where you have your music/video files stored. Dont open/select the folder, just make it the highlighted item, then Menu > Select folder. If a message that says Allow application to read data in Memory Card, always select Yes. Then, press Back > Back > Menu > Update Library > Continue

  30. The minimize option is not working on 5300. Maybe bcause its an s40 phone. So i will not be able do other things. If for example i want to create a text message or browse my phone, i will need to close KD player before i can do such things. very bad. and also, it can play video files but only the audio, video is not displayed.

Maybe this application is perfectly working on symbian phones..^^

  31. I have a problem with my 5300. I installed new opera mini 4 but it can not connect on web. When I go on options/application access/communication/(network access or connectivity) it is set to not allowed but it won’t change. I even try to fix this problem with updating my phone software but it didn’t help. Can anyone help? Please! Any ideas?
P.S. I forgot to wrote, I can use internet with nokia browser and gmail client, and it works fine. Also I tried reinstalling opera 4 but nothing works and installing opera 3, witch was previously installed and worked fine, but it wouldn’t connect on web.

  35. Hi,
My 5610 restarts automatically while listening to music in most of the times. In my friends case, his 5610 gets strucks/hangs even when not listening to music and cannot even be switched off. The battery will have to be removed and then switched on. Both of us have done a software update(4.81). Is there any solution for this?

    Dinesh

  36. Thank you Xpressmusic for your reply for restarting problem. But as I observed, my firmware is an updated one(4.81). And I listen to songs with my keypad locked and hence there is no way a button could get stuck. My only doubt is can I stick on to mp3 format since i’ve got all my music in mp3 format or should I want to convet it to eAAC format ? If not needed, then i still get the restarting problem. Any solution for this?

  37. A friend of time exactly experience that kind of problem, but he resorted it by checking the navi-key and camera button, and he noticed that it’s stuck and the phone keeps on restarting…

Once he pressed and fixed the placement of the buttons, the restarting ceased for a while.

    😀

  38. Xpressmusic,

Gud day.. just want to ask if this will work: I back up my notes, calendar, messages, contacts, etc of my 5300 using Nokia Pc Suite, then restore the back-up file to the nokia n82..

    thanks 😉

  39. hi Xpressmusic,

Is there any software or setting which can delete message older than x days ?
I’m currently using 5300 and recently upgrade firmware to v05.51.
only 1 problem that i found really annoying, i upgrade micro SD to 1GB, and after that, when i want to change tones (for example message tone / alert tone) to the files in the memory card, it will hangs for about 30 second before displaying folders. Is there any solution for this problem ?

    thanks

  40. XpressMusic,

i recently bought a 2gb microSD card for my 5300 (v 5.51) and was interested in watching some full length movies on it. however, when i tried ripping a DVD with a H.264/AVC encoder which resulted in a MP4 file, the phone failed to play it. video setting: 176×144, bitrate 256kbs, 15fps. audio settings: 160kbps stereo. software used: Freez DVD ripper. i also used Freez’s 3GP video converter which worked, but i believe H.264 is a better codec and it is listed as supported by the 5300 at the forum.nokia website. could you please enlighten me on the video capabilities of the 5300 and what is the optimum codec and its settings for worry free and good quality movie ripping for the 5300?

  41. xpressmusic,

what m4a converter should i use to solve the 5310 restarting problem? the converter that i’m currently using did not solve my problem.

  42. Very nice….
The 5300 is a very cool and nice phone, but i see there are alot of people that have the LCD screen problem.
I’ve been researching, and i see that it isn’t that hard to replace the screen, and it is very cheap…

  43. @Bharath

You r rite..I have 5610.I went three time to nokia care.that guys just updated the firm ware for 3 times.Still the restarting and creaking sound problem persist. What the hell these guys are doing.I never seen a private concern providing this kind of worst Cust care service. Instead of releasing this kind of fone these uys can go to hell.Nokia return our money and take u r Idiotic mobile back…………

  44. my 5310 used to restart when playing mp3 files.. i updated the firmware with 3.63 and i tested the phone by playing mp3 the whole day.. it didn’t restart anymore.. pretty happy now..

  45. Novel,

    Unfortunately No.

    Jhie,

Get the upcoming Nokia 5710…as of the moment it’s still not announced by Nokia. But I believe, they would do in the next coming months.

3.2MP with AutoFocus plus flash….but the dual flash of the Nokia 5610 is tempting too..

Word of advice, rather stay away from the 5310

    😀

  46. Dear all
can you help me to find a soft wear for Nokia 5300 to lock the folders (images, video, or any other data ) please

  47. For me? 5610

They have the same camera, 5610 is ahead with its audio chip and 22hours of music playback (if you’re more into music).

As far as i know, there’s no difference with their camera capabilities, even if 6500s has carl zeiss lens. 6500s supports tv-out though.

Still, it’s up to you Jhie

  48. hey um when i press the side key buttons like play, it starts to play the rado, is there anyway that when i press play that my music will start playing??

    thanks.

    crizelle.

  56. Hi,

I would like to know if anyone here tried using nokia pc suite on their nokia 5310? I dont know why but it seems like it doesnt detect my fone.. hmm.. anyone?

    anyway thanks in advance!

  57. 5310 users:
Anyone who’s experiencing low sound volume issue should get the 5.81 Firmware upgrade. Apart from that, it addresses the “low base” glitch in the equalizers, so there’s more thump to expect. The continuous scroll in playlist works faster.

Further, the issue of jerky recording in video camera has been solved (this is temporal, coz they only seem to have reduced the bit-rate). Data connectivity is much better and more user friendly. That’s all I can say at the moment. I recommend an upgrade at least to those who’re still running the 5.0 firmware.

  58. anyone can help me, to make playlist song 5300 with nokia pc suite. i was created on pc suite but it can’t play on my phone.why?

  59. The tip of the handsfree broke in the 3.5mm jack of my 5310
now what to do since the tip is so small that i dont know how it will come out
    guys help me out

  60. @ Antrix

I’ve updated my 5310’s firmware to the 5.82 version and damn the sound is a LOT louder! and when i plugged my earphone my God it sounds even better! specially the bass you can really hear the low frequency crawl. Sound problem SOLVED!

1 problem i still have with my 5310 is with my inbox messages. The time showing on each message is 8hrs late from the real time set in the phone. I checked all time settings and timezone they are all correct. It’s just the time on my inbox messages that’s screwed up. But when i look at my sent messages the time is correct. Anyone?

  61. @Kanamei

i’ve tried changing the GMT already and i still have the same problem. BTW, i’m in the Philippines not sure if others are also having this problem but i also got a chance to speak to a person who is also having this problem who also happens to be here in the Philippines. It’s no big deal, but it’s just irritating to always add 8hrs to the time so that i can get the correct time. hehe!

  62. Ei!
i use a nokia 5310 and i am having the same issue with Dabid here and i am in thailand. it’s really frustrating to see messages with a wrong time stamp. but its even more frustrating trying to fix it. how hard is it to set the phone in the correct time zone? do you need to be a rocket scientist to do that? i certainly hope not. how is this fixed then?

Next, do any of you guys know how to delete preloaded music in Nokia 5310? i need the phone space for my themes and i’m not interested in the music installed.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

  63. I have nokia 5310 and want to upload my own ringtones the only way it will let me put my own is if i record it first but then it sounds all muffled.. how can i get past this? a code or somthing or anything to do with copyright ect…. ???

  64. I have a problem with my 5300. I installed new opera mini 4 but it can not connect on web. When I go on options/application access/communication/(network access or connectivity) it is set to not allowed but it won’t change. I even try to fix this problem with updating my phone software but it didn’t help. Firmware version 5.51.

I live in Serbia and there’s no Nokia care centar. So please, any ideas?

And one more question is there any way to reinstall firmware but not by upgrading it, I need fresh clean install.

  65. hi… how can i install java games that is too big? like dictionaries with a file size of 2MB. i cant install it to my 5610, the system said the file is too big..

    plz anyone help me…

  66. I just bought the 5310 in the States and feel like an idiot for asking this question but what music purchasing program (Rhapsody, iTunes, etc) works best with this phone? Not so much in the mood to steal music mind you…just looking to buy mp3s.

  67. I heard that there will be a 5600 coming out. Is it true?
Will it be a s40 or s60 device? Will it have a proper 3.5mm jack or shall it have an adapter? Will it have the same camera as the 5610 or better?

  68. hi, a few days ago the music slider on my 5610 snapped off, but i cant afford to send it to Nokia + they might not be able to fix it, does any one know if any other places do it? e.g carphone warehouse

  79. Hi,

I’ve had the 5300 Music Xpress for the last year and love it.

I downloaded the Nokia PC Suite directly from Nokia and have been using it to manage my phone. When I first got this software, I loaded a song into my C-drive music file in the Gallery and was able to use it as a ringtone with no problems.

Now that I’ve had the phone for a while, I wanted to update the ring. I deleted my song and added a new .wav file to the same folder and now I’m getting a message of “Not allowed by activation key,” and the new song cannot be selected as my ringtone.

What would have changed from last year to now that I can’t get this feature to work. Would the USA T-Mobile network have sent a wireless update that would have affected this feature on my phone? I’ve tried a couple different songs and get the same error message even though the details for the songs all say “none” for copyrights.

I am frustrated and upset that I deleted the song that did work as a ringtone previously, as now I fear I can’t upload it again and use it anymore either. Is there a fix for this issue? Do I need to contact my provider? Is there something I can download from somewhere?

    Help!
