Another App Review at Nokia Store for Symbian

The Nokia Store (formerly Ovi Store) was launched in May 2009. It is designed to enable consumers to download and purchase content – such as applications, games, videos, wallpapers, and themes – straight to their Nokia devices. Initially it was made exclusive for S60 devices but was later integrated to the S40 platform.

We’ve tried and reviewed some applications from the Nokia Store that we found something useful for users like you. Applications will be rated on the scale of 1-5 (1 being the highest, 5 is the lowest)

CNN International

Want a news client on the go? CNN for Symbian does not only provide the headlines but video highlights too. This application also allows users to – subscribe to breaking news alerts, share contents on social networking sites – facebook, twitter, and the option to view the headlines on the home screen.


PROS: Fast, excellent UI

CONS: None

This nifty application allows users to place skype-to-skype calls for free. Users can also stay in touch with the built-in IM functionality. Skype can be used to connect on 3G and Wi-Fi connections – very useful for persons who are always on the move especially for frequent flyers and roamers. Sharing content with Skype, whether it’s a picture, video or any compatible file, is absolutely an easy task.


PROS: Free calls, excellent call quality

CONS: No video call function (as yet)

Rating: 2 (Very good)

QuickOffice Pro

Anytime office editing work? All possible with the QT-powered Quickoffice Pro. It enables users to open, create, modify, and share office documents on their mobile phones.


PROS: Easy UI navigation, intuitive controls

CONS: Slow PDF rendering

WhatsApp Messenger

WhatsApp is an application that allows user-to-user messaging without a fee. This app can be accessed via 2G, 3G, or Wi-Fi – if you probably want to save for data charges you can opt for Wi-Fi. Similarly to Skype, it can also be used to share contents without any cost. WhatsApp is widely available across different platforms which entails a large user base to connect with.


PROS: Multi-platform, growing user base potential

CONS: None actually

Latest browser from Nokia brings a lot of functionality changes – tabbed browsing, fast rendering, and improved compression algorithm.
