Never think about Windows 7
Feast your eyes on Windows 3.1 like you never saw it before. Forget Windows 7, and its MinWin “miniaturized” dependency-free core, Windows 3.1, the operating system that Microsoft launched at the start of the 90s, is no-longer-living proof that you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks. Via the images accompanying this article you will be able to see Windows 3.1 like you never saw it before, installed and running on a Nokia N95. The smartphone is capable of running both Windows 3.1 and the native S60 operating systems in parallel.

Situation-one
Microsoft’s decision to have both Windows XP and Windows Vista available concomitantly on the market was a move that inherently backfired against the company. Comparisons involving the two Windows operating system versions favored Vista very little, being, quite to the contrary, beneficial for XP instead. However, this scenario is valid for XP SP2 and Vista RTM. With the advent of SP1 for Vista and SP3 for XP the situation has evolved. First of all, the barrage of criticism targeted at the latest version of the Windows client has toned down. And with SP1 softening all the rough corners of Vista, its adoption is well above that of Windows XP SP3. Read the rest of this entry »

18 questions answered
Postponed from 2006 to 2007, as Microsoft resources focused almost exclusively on wrapping up the Windows Vista client, and then delayed yet again into 2008, with the deadline set by the summer of this year, Windows XP Service Pack 3 is long overdue, and at the same time in its final stages of development. At the end of December 2007, the Redmond company opened up the testing process of XP SP3 and made available for download a public Release Candidate. The Standalone Update Package for Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate weighs in at just 336.1 MB and was dropped via the Microsoft Download Center. Read the rest of this entry »

In the context of the imminent Vista SP1
Windows 7 dropping in late 2009 is one factor that can decisively contribute to the outcome of the Windows Vista and Windows XP equation. The fact of the matter is that the inherent question is if Windows 7 is made available as at the end of 2009, in just under two years, should users ride Windows XP Service Pack 3 for all it’s got to offer, and entirely skip Windows Vista? This even in the context of Windows Vista Service Pack 1. Back in July 2007, Microsoft made a small concession to its Software Assurance customers and opened up a tad on the future of Windows. That’s right… 0!!!
That’s right! Windows Vista can run using a total of zero system memory. Well, bear with me, it will all make sense in the end. When it first introduced Windows Vista, Microsoft faced criticism because of the system requirements associated with the new platform. And the truth of the matter is that Vista is nothing short of a resource hog. The latest operating system from the Redmond company will eat right through CPU cycles, and will swallow every last bit of Random Access Memory you can throw at it. Vista will hesitate little to consume all the resources at its disposal in order to deliver the high-end performance level and user experience synonymous with the Wow. Read the rest of this entry »

Microsoft is dogfooding IE8 but also chewing every bit of detail to shreds
Internet Explorer 8 followed by a question mark and an interrogatory tone is about all that can be said about the successor of Internet Explorer 7 at this point in time. IE7 for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 went live in October 2006, then the browser was also integrated in Vista, and it shipped as a default installation of the operating system in November 2006 and January 2007. But after IE7, Microsoft has Read the rest of this entry »

Vista SP1 Beta and Windows Server 2008 are out of the way
The first taste of the third service pack for Windows XP was delivered concomitantly with the initial version of the first refresh for Windows Vista in July. At the end of August, Microsoft started talking Windows Vista Service Pack 1. Free from the Windows Omerta Read the rest of this entry »

Dislodging Windows is harder than it might seem
Let me state from the get go that this is not a Mac OS X vs. Linux vs. Windows Vista article. It will not provide a conclusion over the superiority of one operating system alone and will only be limited to a total of three reasons why Mac OS X and Linux won’t succeed against Windows Vista. Success in this context is equivalent to a scenario Read the rest of this entry »

Malware has so many shapes and sizes…
Things aren’t always clear when you’re talking about cyber security, and this is why some times, things go bad. Malware is a vague term and refers to a lot of threats, it comes from “malicious” and “software” and a lot of people use this word to dub any cyber-threat. Some don’t use “malware” but use “virus” instead.Like I’ve said many times before, people are insecure because they have no idea what they’re facing on the web. Read the rest of this entry »
