The new Nokia music service launches on October 2
Nokia has just announced that its Comes With Music service will first be launched in the UK, in a collaboration with Carphone Warehouse, the giant mobile phone retailer. The new service will be embedded in a special version of the 5310 candybar, awkwardly named “Nokia 5310 XpressMusic Comes With Music Edition.” Users who buy the handset will have one-year access to the Nokia Music Store catalog (more than 2 million tracks), being able to download as many songs as they want, for free. All the downloaded songs will be listenable even after the one-year period ends, but only on the 5310 handset and on its owner’s desktop PC. Read the rest of this entry »

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has joined India in becoming one of the first countries where Nokia’s N96 Nseries flagship smartphone will be on sale. Nokia has recently announced that the N96 is set to hit the UAE market in the second week of September, hence users there don’t have much to wait at all. The most advanced Nseries device to date, Nokia N96 comes with a dual-sliding design and packs lots of features, including: a 2.8 inch TFT display with 16 million colors and a QVGA resolution, Symbian S60 3rd Edition, accelerometer, dedicated music and gaming keys, internal GPS, Wi-Fi, TV out and DVB-H TV receiver, a 3.5mm headset jack, a 5 Megapixel camera with auto focus, flash and Carl Zeiss lens, advanced audio capabilities, 16 GB of internal memory and microSD card support. After attempting to destroy all evidence of his actions
The US District Court of Arizona has ruled that Jeffrey Howell, a man who used the P2P file-sharing program KaZaA for illegal purposes, should pay a fine of $40,500. What the defendant did was to download 54 tracks from various record companies, and then share them with other users of the software. The Recording Industry Association of America filed a legal motion against him, asking for legal damages on behalf of the affected record labels. Read the rest of this entry »

Who’s taking up too much?
Google Browser (Google Chrome) and Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 are nothing short of resource hogs compared to Firefox 3.0.1. This is the conclusion presented by researchers from the Devil Mountain Software company, who threw the three browsers one against the other on the same “arena”, a Dell OptiPlex 745 (Core 2 Duo @ 2.66GHz) with 2GB of RAM and running both Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3.

Only to be replaced by a more innovative technology
When 2008 started, everyone hoped to see a conclusion of the next-generation DVD format war between Toshiba’s HD DVD and Sony’s Blu-ray. In the end, Blu-ray has officially won this “battle,” with Toshiba admitting defeat and moving on to other segments of the CE market. However, this victory might be relatively short-lived (compared to the lifespan of the DVD format, for example), at least according to what a Samsung manager has to say. Read the rest of this entry »

The Nokia N96 offers the most personalized mobile internet experience to date
Nokia recently announced the availability of the much anticipated Nokia N96, its flagship multimedia computer in the iconic Nokia Nseries range. It boasts live TV, 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, turn-by-turn voice navigation, 16GB of internal memory that can be increased to 24GB with an optional microSD card, superior sound and music, N-Gage gaming and a stunning 2.8″ display. First shipments of the Nokia N96 have started and it will be available with an estimated retail price of EUR 550 before taxes and subsidies.
